  3. Equity Committee: To ensure impartial and unbiased investigation, Equity Committee must be formed. It will conduct time-bound resolution of discrimination-related complaints to strengthen institutional accountability.
  4. Grievance Redressal Mechanism: It will provide a 24×7 helpline, an online complain portal, and time-bound action for each complaint.
  5. Equity ambassadors and Squads: These will raise awareness about equality issues, monitor and report them. Students and faculties will both be a part of it. They will oversee classes, labs, hostels.
  6. Definition of Discrimination: The definition has been widened to include both direct and indirect discrimination.
  7. Accountability and Consequences: Non-compliance of the regulations will lead to UGC taking actions against the institutions like refusing financial assistance, degree recognition etc.

Liability: Head of the Institution (VC/Principal) will be held responsible for not following the equity regulations laid down by UGC.

What is the timeline of Grievance Redressal?

There is a schedule that needs to be followed once a complaint has been filed according to new UGC guidelines 2026.

  • 24 Hours: First meeting of the Equity Committee to be held.
  • 15 Days: Inquiry and investigation needs to be conducted and completed.
  • 7 Days: Implementation of action by the head of the institution based on the report submitted by the Equity Committee.
